"Take away the TV, take away the video games, set some standards for our children!" she proclaimed, "We need to get our kids back outside, playing with sticks in the street like I did when I was little," she said. "Expand your mind, go outside and get to see what this world is like."

I know this is just a tip of the iceberg cute response for the sake of a pageant but parents need to cut the TV themselves! Children copy us, we're fat so they're fat. Once we realize that then we might be able to fix this epidemic.
pretty girl but she must not of grew up in the hood. we used to be able to play outside but not much in these days and times. realistic alternatives and issues with overweight kids does deserve more conversation.
Nice news for the start of Black History Month tomorrow!
I think she's right. It would be a helluva good start.
I dont really agree! I dont think video games are the problem. I think it all starts with what the parents give the kids to eat. Parents need to teach their kids good eating habits, and not be taking them to fast food all the time....children have been obese way before video games, im sure video games doesnt help, but its the parents that need to help the kid along to understand Hey no exercise isnt healthy, the kid isnt gonna understand until they are older and are like Hey I dont want to look like this anymore...Video games developers are trying to get more exercise for the kids, but again its if the kid wants to do it. Just look at Wii, they got Wii fit, Biggest Loser exercise game, EA Active (which I want teehee) and also Gold Gym Work out video game...Other consoles have Dance Dance and Tony Hawk Skateboarding and soon to be coming out with more....
Miss Virginia is beautiful. I have not seen the pageant. I recorded it and will watch it tonight.
