Raven-Symoné Covers Rolling Out, Talks Transformation

I was pleasantly surprised to see a new television commercial for a show, starring Ms. Raven Symoné. The State of Georgia, an ABC Family sit-com, is slated to be the 25 year-old's first (slightly more) "grown-up" role. During the media rounds to promote this project, the inevitable topic of her weight loss continues to take a presence. And she's sticking to her guns about how she did - with a twist. Featured on the cover of this month's Rolling Out, the star shared details about her career, success and new figure:

ROMag: People are excited about your new figure. How did you achieve it?
Raven: During “That’s So Raven,” I dealt with stress that an average 15-year-old might not go through, and my body showed those stresses on the outside. Doctors say that stress kills and that stress manifests itself in different ways. For me, and the way my genes are, I happened to get a little thicker. After “That’s So Raven” ended, the weight of the world was off of my shoulders. I was able to look at what was going on with me, instead of finding comfort in things that might not be the healthiest. By releasing those issues, my stress went away internally as well as externally.
ROMag: Did exercise play a role?

Raven: I’ve been exercising since I was 9 years old. I was on tour with ‘N Sync, and I did my own tour. Anyone who has been on tour knows that it’s excessive training all day. I have had the same exercise routine my entire life.

From her responses, it can be gathered, that not only stress but the activities - food even, that she looked to as a coping method when she felt under pressure, led to her unhealthy state. When the story first broke of her changes, people were not buying the "less stress" only factor. As it's sometimes easy to see weight loss or improved health as black or white; eat right and exercise; calories in/calories out; I, however, still applaud Raven for recognizing and addressing her real trigger/s. I hope that she'll be successful in maintaining focus on underlying issues and stress, as she hops back into the acting limelight!

The State of Georgia premiers Wednesday, June 29th at 8:00pm EST on ABC Family
